Closing of the Bones Ceremony

The Closing of the Bones is an ancient ritual, practiced in various cultures around the world. I am deeply grateful to have learned this practice from Coco Genevieve, who herself was taught by incredible mentors such as Rachelle Garcia Selinga, AYA Maria, Daniela Prema, and Ashlee Sakaishi Wilkin—many of whom studied directly with the renowned traditional Mexican midwife Naoli Vinaver.

By honouring the wisdom holders and guardians of these sacred practices, I approach this ceremony with deep respect and reverence. It is a privilege to carry forward this tradition in its integrity, holding space for women as they close the energetic and physical chapter of their birth journey.

  • This ceremony serves as an opportunity for healing, release, and reclamation, allowing women to process held trauma or memories, reconnect with their bodies, and feel deeply nurtured. It’s a beautiful way to acknowledge the completion of a cycle and to support the transition into a new phase of motherhood. The ceremony involves a combination of physical, emotional, and spiritual practices designed to "close" the body after the expansive experience of pregnancy and birth. The ceremony aims to:

    • Encourage physical healing and alignment

    • Support emotional release and integration

    • Provide deep relaxation and grounding

    • Reconnect the mother with her body

    • Celebrate the transition into motherhood

This is a time to honour your journey, acknowledge your strength, and hold space for your unique experience.

  • The Closing of the Bones ceremony typically lasts around 4 hours. It can be tailored to suit your preferences and needs and allow time for you to feed and comfort your baby. Here’s what the experience might include:

    1. Creating a Sacred Space: The ceremony begins by setting up a calming, safe environment with soothing music, candles, and aromatherapy.

    2. Guided Reflection: A moment to reflect on your birth journey and share your feelings. This could also look like a birth debrief if desired. We will form an intention to bring into the ceremony

    3. Gentle Massage: While I am not a licensed massage therapist, I offer a gentle shoulder rub or head massage to help you reconnect with your body

    4. Heat Therapy: A yoni steam or herbal bath using my personally prepared herbs to bring heat into the body in order to sweat and release

    5. Rebozo Wrapping: Using traditional rebozos, the body is gently wrapped from head to toe to symbolise "closing" the body and bringing the energy inward.

    6. Rest and Integration: Time to rest, process, and fully absorb the experience.

  • This ceremony is ideal for:

    • Mothers in the early postpartum period

    • Mothers months or even years after birth who feel the need for closure

    • Mothers who have experienced loss

    • Anyone who wants to honour their birth experience and reconnect with their body
